Collins Reinsurance Training Program

July 21-25, 2008, Collins Headquarters Offices, 8500 Normandale Lake Blvd., Minneapolis, Minn., 55437

Join Collins for a weeklong reinsurance training program, for employees of ceding companies as well as reinsurance markets -- and especially worthwhile for employees who are relatively new to the business of reinsurance.

The program will provide, in a small-group setting, a comprehensive and easy-to-understand overview of our business - from the basic concepts of risk, to financial reports, to the provisions of reinsurance contracts. Attendees will leave the course with:

  • Familiarity with terms used in reinsurance;
  • A better grasp of the concepts underlying the reinsurance business and marketplace; and
  • An understanding of the processes, issues and transactions that involve insurers, reinsurance companies and reinsurance intermediaries.

Course sessions will include:

An introduction to reinsurance: Why companies need reinsurance, how reinsurance is structured and underwritten, and a look at the contracts and programs brokers, or "intermediaries," develop between insurers and reinsurers.

Specific reinsurance forms: Demystifying various types of reinsurance treaties - including quota share, surplus share, working layer excess and catastrophe/clash excess coverages - to understand the best options for specific reinsurance needs and situations.

Program Structure and Design: Bringing it all together. How do the various individual components of a reinsurance program come together to provide comprehensive protection to ceding companies? Inuring relationships, recognition of the net business retained by the cedent, and a study of how individual and multiple claimant losses flow through a reinsurance program will be discussed.

Who should attend: Insurance or reinsurance employees from underwriting, claim, loss control, accounting, finance or other areas of their companies.

Why attend: To get a timely, concise and thorough review of the nature of the business and the specific characteristics of the reinsurance process as well as practical insight into actual reinsurance programs through examples and case studies.

Cost: There is no cost for the program. Attendees will be responsible for travel costs and arrangements, and the costs of lodging, which will be arranged by Collins.

Enrollment for the program is limited. Registration deadline is June 1st, 2008. If you wish to enroll or have additional questions, please contact Carolyn Erickson at 952.820.1001 or via email at carolyn.erickson@collins.com.
